Poly, DBA Plantronics, Inc., is a leader in video and voice solutions, with world headquarters in Santa Cruz, CA. Geo. H. Wilson was contacted by Swinerton Builders to help with the relocation of the Specials Group from one side of the campus to the other. The selected site was a former unconditioned warehouse addition constructed out of steel and metal panels. Various means of applying insulation were investigated to meet current Title 24 requirements prior to application of sprayed on foam insulation.
Project Requirements
Geo. H. Wilson was contracted to implement a mechanical design to meet multiple options and budgets while keeping up with a challenging schedule driven by relocation deadline imposed by Poly’s management. Our 25-year history of of working with Plantronics played a role in our selection the construction team.
What Geo. H. Wilson Delivered
Geo. H. Wilson’s Project Managers worked closely with the ACCO Engineered Systems engineering department. We blended their resources with our site knowledge to make this project a success. We were able to secure a permit, procure all equipment, fabricate galvanized sheet metal duct, install exposed ductwork and air distribution, integrate controls and complete an air balance report, while keeping ahead of Swinerton Builders schedule. Additionally, we provided turnkey changes to compressed air piping requirements as personnel from the Specials Group moved in to accommodate sensitive test equipment.
A particular challenge was integrating the new temperature controls with the proprietary building management system in place. We navigated through multiple hurdles and were able to introduce representatives from Sunbelt Controls to Poly’s facilities team for potential renovation of the current system.
